Tennessee has established an “open-ended” fee schedule for the state’s Notaries — leaving it to their discretion to establish a reasonable fee According to Tenn. Code Ann. § 8-21-1201, “Notaries public are entitled to demand and receive reasonable fees and compensation for the notaries public’s services.”

The Seal Is Part of the Service: The “seal” or the actual stamp is the core part of the notarial act. Because the statute is open-ended, there is no separate legal maximum for applying the physical stamp versus reviewing the document. A notary rolls the cost of their time, expertise, and the application of the seal into their self-determined “reasonable fee”. [1, 2, 3, 4]
